Smash Padel Cardiff is launching a free weekly padel programme for inactive people aged 50+, funded through Cardiff Metropolitan University’s Active Leisure Scheme.
The new programme will give adults aged 50+ the chance to try padel in a friendly, confidence‑building environment, and is designed specifically for people who are completely new to the sport and want a relaxed, social way to get active.
Running from 23 September 2026 to 24 February 2027, weekly sessions will take place every Wednesday at Smash Padel Cardiff, Llandaff Fields, Cardiff, CF11 9HZ.
Each session will offer a 50/50 blend of beginner coaching and social match play, helping participants learn the fundamentals before putting their new skills into action. The programme is intentionally welcoming and non‑competitive, with a focus on meeting new people and enjoying movement.
To support long‑term participation, individuals can attend five free sessions before progressing into Smash Padel’s wider programme, including beginner and improver coaching and lunchtime social sessions. Free tea and coffee will be available after every session to encourage conversation and connection.
Sessions are now available to book, for free, by emailing getactivecardiff@smashpadel.co or by calling 07542 610545. Sessions are also available as part of the ACTIF Cardiff Pass in association with Cardiff Met Sport. Racket hire is available for £3.
Jessii Wood, General Manager at Smash Padel Cardiff, said: “Padel is one of the most accessible sports you can try, and this brand new programme has been developed to give people the confidence to take that first step. We want every player to feel welcomed and part of a community from the moment they arrive.”
Eleanor Lock, Physical Activity & Health Pathway Coordinator from Cardiff Met Uni, added: “We’re pleased to provide Smash Padel with funding that will make a real difference in the area. The programme they’ve put together is brilliant. It’s social, supportive and gives people a genuinely accessible way to get active. We’re proud to help bring it to life for the over‑50s community in Cardiff.”
