Our coaching philosophy.

Never picked up a racket, or chasing your next level? Either way, our coaching starts with you. Wherever you play, and whichever coach you play with, you get the same quality, the same approach, and someone who knows how to help you improve your game.

There are two ways to run a coaching programme. Lots of clubs put the coach at the centre: they set the pace, push everyone the same way, and the players who don’t fit the mould tend to stop enjoying it. We do it the other way round. We build the sessions around you.

Everyone learns differently. Some want pushing, some want reassuring, some need to see a shot before it clicks. Our coaches read what each player needs and adapt as they go so everyone leaves having got something out of the session.

The Smash coaching development programme.

Here’s what makes that possible. Every Smash coach is directly employed by us. Most clubs rely on freelancers, and a freelancer tends to bring one style: brilliant if it suits you, frustrating if it doesn’t.

Because our coaches are ours, we can invest in their development. A full-time coach education manager, an ongoing development programme, and a personal plan for every coach. We work as much on the softer skills, the questioning, the empathy, reading what a player needs, as on the game itself, and we look beyond padel to the best coaching across sport, so our coaches never stop improving.

For you, that means consistency, the same approach whether you’re in Cardiff or Bicester, and a coach who adapts to you: pushing when you want pushing, reassuring when you don’t.

What our players say.

For someone approaching 56 years of age, Smash Padel has opened up not only a fantastic new sport for me, but also an amazing source of new acquaintances and friendships. For a place that is not a members’ club, it truly has the feel of a wonderful club – and that is entirely down to the way Gareth and the staff welcome and look after everyone. It has become my happy place. No matter what troubles might be going on in life off the court, I always get a
tremendous lift each time I walk into Smash Padel Cardiff.

I absolutely love playing at Smash Padel Mid Sussex! The location at Whitemans Green is great – easy to get to and such a lovely spot. The courts are top quality, and I really appreciate that they have a single court, which is perfect when you just want to play one-on-one. The coaches are brilliant – friendly, professional, and really encouraging. Most of all, it’s just so much fun! I can’t get enough of it. Highly recommend to anyone, whether you’re just starting out or already hooked on padel like I am!

I very much love playing Padel, and the great staff at Oxford—Lupe, Louisa, and Daniella—make the experience even more special. Their warm and welcoming nature has helped create a lovely community that continues to grow. Playing Padel here isn’t just about the game; it’s about being part of something very enjoyable.

Smash has delivered a thriving padel centre which drives new footfall to our newly refurbished clubhouse and restaurant. Over 90% occupancy illustrates how their team has engaged the local community with coaching and programming.

FAQs.

Definitely. You don’t need to think of yourself as sporty to enjoy padel or to improve at it. Our whole approach is built around the individual, so sessions adapt to you rather than expecting you to be at a certain level. While some people want to play in competitions, most people enjoy playing for the fun and social side of things.

A free intro. It’s an hour on court with a coach, rackets provided, and at the end they’ll help you find the right next step, whether that’s our Padel XExpress beginner course, group sessions or one-to-one coaching.

Group sessions are social and a great way to learn alongside others at your level. Private coaching is one-to-one, focused entirely on you and your goals. Plenty of players do both, and your coach can help you figure out what’s right for you.

Every single Smash coach is LTA accredited, employed as part of the Smash team, and developed through our own coaching development programme. That means consistent, high-quality coaching at every venue, from people who genuinely get to know your game.

Yes, we have in-house coaching teams at all our venues. You’ll find your local coaches, and everything you can book with them, on each location page or on the Nettla app.
